EmpowerHER Initiative
Through the Women Agroecology Cooperative (WAC) Initiative, we set women up for long-term success in scalable agribusiness by providing training in sustainable agriculture, leadership, and financial management.
The women of Africa continue to face the challenge of lack of access to opportunities for development. A disparity born from social hierarchy has seen them miss opportunities to learn valuable skills that can be applied to achieve financial independence, support their families and communities, and contribute to the economic growth of the continent as a whole. The Empower Her Initiative seeks to change this narrative.
Research shows that educating women is very impactful, often resulting in lasting multigenerational effects. Our program brings education directly to women in the form of the Women Agroecology Cooperative (WAC) workshops that offers exclusive training in:
Sustainable Agricultural Practices.
Our program trains women on the key practices that make farming sustainable; from selecting the right crops to the most tenable cultivation methods. Africa has great potential to be a global powerhouse in agriculture, but one of its biggest challenges is the lack of knowledge about optimal farming practices that can scale from self-sufficiency to profitable international export. The EmpowerHer Initiative sows the seed of education that will be passed down and expanded upon by women and their communities for decades to come.
Leadership Development.
Growth in any field requires the right leadership to achieve success. We empower African women to be the leaders of their own development. As part of the WAC, members gain access to valuable training on leadership in the running of their co-op, decision-making, and resource management as their farming initiatives thrive and flourish.
Financial Management.
Financial freedom is essential to women in Africa who depend on their success in agribusiness to provide for their families and thrive in their communities. The Women Agroecology Cooperative training program educates women on key principles of money management that can be applied to sustaining growth once it starts.
Program Details
Women Agroecology Cooperative (WAC) Initiative´s aim is to provide comprehensive training in farming methods combining established science-based sustainable approaches with historical methods specific to the region. This coupled with basic training in financial literacy and leadership skills will ensure a self-sustaining system to build financial security for women, skills necessary for cooperative governance and sound financial decision making, sustainable food sources and improved food security, and a protected environment. The initiative's overarching goal is to create a self-sustained and empowered community of women farmers capable of contributing to local food security while preserving and passing down traditional agricultural wisdom.
